Deborah Austin serves as the Director of Patient Experience & Engagement at John Muir Health, where she leads initiatives to enhance both staff and patient interactions, driving improvements in overall experience. Her pivotal role includes fostering engagement strategies that elevate healthcare standards.
Deborah played a key role in establishing the Office of Belonging & Equity, focusing on cultivating meaningful relationships with Black communities and professionals. Her commitment to diversity and inclusion extends to her involvement in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
Beyond her professional endeavors, Deborah is deeply engaged in community service. She holds leadership positions on several boards, including the University of California, Davis, where she was recently elected as Vice President/President Elect of the Alumni Association. She is also actively involved with the African & African American Alumni Association and serves on the Dean's Advisory Council.
In addition, Deborah chairs the Health Committee of the Oakland Chapter of the NAACP, using her expertise to advocate for healthcare equity and social justice. She is passionate about mentoring youth and empowering them with the tools and resources necessary to become future leaders. Deborah often encourages her colleagues to embrace "good trouble" as a catalyst for meaningful change.
