Born and raised in Oakland, California. Attended school and college in Oakland and Alameda, California. The only child of my Mother and Father. I have 15 half brothers and sisters.
I am the proud Mother of Maurice and Cherie Lewis, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
My hobbies include traveling, socializing and volunteering.
After 25 years of Federal Government service, I retired on June 1, 1998, as Deputy Personnel Director for the Department of the Navy, Military Sealift Pacific in Oakland, California. I was responsible for supervising over 100 men and women who worked as Merchant Seamen, Merchant Sea Women and everyone in the personnel department. Also, I was President of the Employee Activity Association, where I supervised that Board and planned fun events and activities throughout the year for all of the employees.
Once I retired, I was able to devote additional time to my volunteer community activities and became a Community Activist. I serve on numerous Non-Profit Boards/Committees including Co-Chair of John George Democratic Club, CEO of Fannie Wall Children’s Home, Past President of United Seniors of Oakland and Alameda County and current Treasurer, Past President of Sojourner Truth Manor Board and current Treasurer, Past President of Oakland Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Vice Chairperson of Alameda County Oakland Community Action Partnership Board an Associate Member of the Oakland One Hundred Black Women and currently in the Oakland NAACP as Treasurer. I am President of Golden Age Senior Center in Oakland. I am a proud member of Beebe Memorial Cathedral, Christian Episcopal Church in Oakland for the past 45 years.
